Some people are born natural leaders while others need to be groomed and developed. Regardless of which group they belong to, leaders are required to coordinate and motivate followers to perform extraordinarily and speedily in a fast-changing political, economic, technological, and competitive setting.

Most leaders are trained in Western leadership theories which often are presented as “impersonally” rational. Being rational is never wrong. The trouble is: it is to be applied to leaders and employees who are human beings with frailties, feelings and emotions. It is therefore not surprising that some leaders find it awkward and thus do not know how to act when confronted with human conflicts and unpleasant interactions in the complex corporate reality. This happens when the leaders are new or being promoted from engineering or technical department to their leadership positions. Leaders who are superior in technical matters suddenly realize that leadership has many more dimensions including dealing with many forms of human interaction.
